Eamonn Holmes has claimed on-line trolls needed him to lose his job on This Morning amidst the information that he and spouse Ruth Langsford had been dropped from their traditional slot on the show.
There was shock amongst loyal viewers of the ITV show on Saturday when it was revealed that the pair, who repeatedly host the programme on Fridays and fill in for longer spells when presenting pair Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take their holidays, had been axed from their Friday slot by bosses, leaving them “livid and upset.”
They shall be changed on Fridays by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, with the duo are mentioned to have impressed after visitor internet hosting collectively over the summer season.
And now Eamonn, who has an extended standing relationship with ITV from his TV:AM and GMTV days has mentioned he believed critics plotted to get him off This Morning.
In a Facebook Live chat with Belfast Live final week, Eamonn mentioned: ” “People say it is water off a duck’s again however folks get up and they know they’ll get you sacked… that is the factor about dwell TV. It could be very anxious.”
The Mirror reported on Saturday that Eamonn confided in latest weeks of fearing he was too “pale, stale and male” for the show – which has drawn criticism for not having sufficient variety amongst hosts.
An insider mentioned: “ITV has been open about wanting to diversify and make the show ‘much less white’ however they have not tried to discover anything for them.
“Ruth will stay on Loose Women and they are going to do faculty holidays. But Eamonn hasn’t been provided a job wherever else on the channel, which is an actual disgrace for him.”
This Morning followers reacted with anger to how they believed Eamonn and Ruth had been handled by the show.
One ranted: “Won’t be watching this morning on a Friday anymore now Ruth & Eamonn are not doing it! Terrible choice!” and one other tweeted: “I haven’t got an issue with Alison, I’ve a large drawback with Eamonn and Ruth being shafted as an alternative of Phillip and Holly!”
