The first full trailer for the upcoming Netflix biographical program “Selena: The Series” is a wistful celebration of a star on the rise.
The show tells the coming-of-age story of beloved singer Selena Quintanilla — performed by Christian Serratos (“The Walking Dead,” “Twilight”) — whose life is full of “heart-wrenching and life-changing sacrifices she and her household make as they navigate the highs and lows of success, loss, love and music,” in keeping with the show’s official description.
“If you stand round and watch for what you need, you are gonna be ready your complete life,” a younger Selena is instructed in a voice-over. “You need to go and get it.”
In her quick life, Texas native Selena went on to search out large success because the “Queen of Tejano music” before she was shockingly murdered by her fan membership president and former boutique clothes supervisor Yolanda Saldivar on March 31, 1995, at age 23. She was the top-selling Latin artist of the Nineties, in keeping with Billboard journal, which inducted her into its Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1995.
The two-part show, created byexecutive producer Moisés Zamora, additionally stars Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemà Gonzalez and Seidy López. “Selena: The Series” will premiere Dec. 4 on Netflix.
