Jane Smith Wolcott Married a Doctor Who Had Gone to School with Her Husband

She stated the Rogers Commission Report mirrored “extremely horrible judgments, shockingly sparse concern for human life, situations of officers missing the braveness to train the duties of their excessive workplace and a few very bewildering thought processes.”
Wolcott stated that she first met Smith in 1961 when she was 15, The Washington Post reported. He requested her to marry him six years later after he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. She stated the morning he died, they’d spoken by telephone and he instructed her it was too chilly and “there’s no approach we are able to go at the moment.” She stated he had written “I like you” notes to her and her kids earlier than he received on the shuttle that day.

In 2018, Wolcott was honored by the Virginia Beach Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for her love of rescuing animals, The Virginian-Pilot reported. In 2016, Balch attended a memorial for fallen astronauts on the thirtieth anniversary of the Challenger catastrophe, SpaceFlightNow reported.
